Democracy is the system of government in which the power to rule is given by the people. Democracy is considered as the sole model of justified government in the current era because this is the only way the equality and freedom can be provided to the people. There is no definition of democracy but rather is considered as a philosophy (Benhabib, 1996). There are various types of democratic disciplines but the emphasis in the system is to uniform the power distribution in which the government should not become more powerful and considers itself above the law. Legislations are passed in order to avoid such incidents, but whenever power distribution equilibrium is disturbed, the problems are inevitable not only for society but for the whole political system. This is where powers like army intrusion and taking over the control becomes common. Another term liberal democracy has staged the surface is based on the constitution. The constitution democracy is based on the rules and regulations which are governed by a power authority which overlooks the steps taken by the democratic government. The term liberal governmental terms originated when the communists made their way on the top during the cold war. Communists also believed that the system they are authorizing is a form of democracy, but in reality it was different and liberal democracy term was used to differentiate it with the communism (Benhabib, 1996).
Different countries have different modes of democracy. The famous ones are parliamentary system and Electoral College system. Current government of USA is working very hard in order to make the people say in the government in many countries. The invasion of Iraq was one step of this in which the overthrowing of Saddam was the beginning of a new democratic government, though the real setup of government of USA is quite a different type of democratic form which it is propelling in various other countries. The parliamentary system is present in many of allies of USA including Pakistan and Turkey. The system involves the elections presided by the election commissions and monitored by international observers. In the elections various parties setup their motives to fight in elections against opponents of different parties (Diamond & Morlino, 2005). There are two types of elections in the parliamentary system which is undergone at the same time. They are Provincial Assembly Elections and National Assembly Elections. The winner of the National Assembly Elections makes up the government on the National front whereas the Provincial Assemble Elections makes up the provincial front (Dahl, 1963). The power of people is clearly described in these elections as the people come out to cast their votes in the favor of those who they think is better than others and can control the country better than others. Though there are various flaws in the systems. In third world countries, this system is effective but it is very common as well to see a major shift in power.

Painting A House Purple

Pliny the elder said ‘a master passion like a serpent kills the rest’. When one has a passion for something nothing, name it the critics of friends, relatives, and neighbours, will stop them from pursuing what their heart desires. Purple colour is a colour that many tend to shun off. It’s one colour that most people don’t think of. Purple, being a mixture of warm red with blue which is considered cool, it thus becomes a colour of good blend as it cannot be considered as warm or cool, its in between.
Purple is a good colour as it’s not a colour of many, it thus leaves you feeling unique and special. When a house is painted purple, there is always that conflict that will arise from your neighbours who feel that what you have done doesn’t seem okay as you need to follow the majority taste. Purple, unknown to many, is a very special colour standing out of the many colours that are there. It’s one of its kinds as it’s considered sacred naturally. It therefore means that when you paint your house purple you have that special attachment for your house and you feel it’s a place that should be treated with all the respect and sacredness. Purple is cool and warm at the same time thus when painted in the house you get that feeling of not too hot or too cold as purple is a regulatory colour (Alice, 1993).
With children in your house, it’s always good to paint your house purple as children develop creativity, innovativeness and imagination with the view of colour purple. It’s therefore evident that purple incites the inner abilities of children making them to be very resourceful individuals in the future. Thus painting your house purple acts as a stimulant in the abilities of the little ones, something that no other colour can do hence making purple a colour that outstands the other colours that are there and giving a lead in development (Alice 1993).
The beauty of purple colour ranging from light or bright purple to dark purple is just the best to view the whole day, it makes one have the feeling of excitement all day long. If you want to experience romance right from when you jump out your bed to when you retire back to the house after the stresses of a long days work Purple is just the colour! For the rich dark purple is the colour for your house as it portrays richness. For the loved ones, for them to experience favourable love atmosphere of romance, choosing light purple to paint your house is just the right choice (American, 1975).
Thus Sandra cisheros passion for purple should prevail, as its one colour that proves productive for the economy as it excites and raises that creativity and imagination in children who are the future developers and leaders. Thus having our houses painted purple, will enhance richness and economic development in a country. It as well enhances spirituality in a person as it’s considered sacred hence people tend to get deep spiritually.

Gender Stereotypes

Stereotypes limit us from reaching full potential. But the good news is that we have the power of deciding what is of value to us and pursue it to make our dreams true. People are made to believe that a certain group in society is limited in one way or the other which in real sense is not true. There are also associated roles which we are told we must do in order to fit in a given group. There have been stereotypes related to gender since time immemorial. Most of them focus their attention on women, they are depicted to be less intelligent than men and generally weak. Women are also associated with domestic work.
Women have been depicted as less intellectual than men; people have been told that women cannot handle challenging tasks. This has made some jobs to be set specific for a certain gender. In education sector for example some courses are believed to be better for boys rather than girls. The reason behind that being, the course is more technical and can only be taken by boys who are believed to be more intellectual. This perception extends even into work places and you find in many companies women are not encouraged to take tasks which are more technical. It has also been assumed that domestic work belongs to women. Media shows domestic work being handled by women and thus society is made to believe these duties belong to them. This has made men to relax, leaving all the domestic work to women alone.
Gender cannot be a limit to achieving our potential. Women in contrast to existing stereotypes are very intelligent and can undertake challenging tasks equally to men or even better. They have ventured in professions which were believed to be dominated by men. Their performance records in these fields are outstanding and they do even challenge their male counter parts. This is a true evident that women can do more than what has been perceived. It is also wrong to believe that household work belongs to women alone. Men should get involved and assist their wives in home jobs. Recently some men have been helping their spouses in domestic duties which a good trait to be followed. Sharing duties and going against these gender stereotypes will help us as a society to attain development goals. A good example why these stereotypes are bias is that Hillary Clinton. She demonstrated to the entire world women can be equally better as men in politics by contesting US presidential candidate of Democratic Party, in the year 2008 presidential election.
The notion of seeing women as less intelligent should be discouraged. They should be give opportunity to explore their potential abilities as well as contribute in innovation and creativity. Although our culture bombards us with message showing how gender makes us different in ability, we should ignore these beliefs. We are all equal and these stereotypes are destructive because they are limiting our potential.

The Concealed Truth

Nothing in the world is hard to find like the truth buried behind day to day allegations, statements and claims. People talk about what others want to listen probably to avoid taking responsibility of their own actions. Politician and leaders are the most established when it comes to spreading the wrong information; most of them have selfish motives behind their allegations and deeds. The general public has fallen prey to these liars and ends up placing the blame on the wrong people. The truth does not come that easy; it has a cost. Jimmy Santiago Baca elucidates this thesis better through his poem “So Mexicans Are Taking Jobs From Americans.” The plot of this poem revolves around the common belief that Mexicans are out to take over America’s employment opportunities. Baca’s poem is ironical in nature since it portrays Americans as people who accept information without questioning its source and validity. In the beginning of the poem, the poet ironically claims that maybe Americans are being forcefully snatched off their jobs by the Mexicans; this is portrayed by the line “Do they mug you, a knife at your throat” (Baca, Line 10). He also ironically proves that Mexicans are not violent, it is the whites who are and therefore, if it was about violence, whites would definitely be able to defend themselves.
Baca’s point is that Americans are not concentrating on what they should and that they are blaming on Mexicans for their failure; he believes that Americans are not facing the real truth that is hidden behind their sentiments about Mexicans. Jimmy Santiago sends a wakeup call to Americans by revealing that the idea of diminishing jobs in America has nothing to do with the Mexicans; to the poet, Mexicans are just poor people trying to make ends meet just like majority of the poor. This is evident in the lines “I see small white farmers selling out/to clean-suited farmers living in New York” (Baca, Lines 25-26). The poet brings a moment of reckoning to the reader through his search for the truth whereby he ironically claims to be probing if it is truly the Mexicans who are robbing Americans of their jobs.
The poems mood changes when the search for these Mexicans turns out to be something else different from the expectations; “The rifles I hear sound in the night/are white farmers shooting blacks and browns” (Baca, Lines 20-21). The poet further declares the truth by finding out that Mexicans are not even stealing away American jobs; the jobs they do are worthless jobs that Americans won’t try to apply for. At this point, a moment of reckoning reaches; time to realize the truth. According to Baca, Americans have their fellow Americans to blame; he cites Americans who are practicing illegal activities and politicians who are fighting for money leaving the rest of the population living under despondency and poverty. “I see this, and I hear only a few people/got all the money in this world, the rest/count their pennies to buy bread and butter”

Qualitative Research Methodology

There are two main categories of research method: quantitative and qualitative. As quantitative research method is mostly used where a large set of data has to be analysed statistically, the purpose of qualitative research method is to help in the understanding of social phenomena in a natural rather than experimental setting, with an emphasis on the meanings, experiences, and views of the participants rather than on providing quantified answers to a research question (Meadows, 2003).
The researcher choose a research work done by Alex Broom and Philip Tovey (2009) which concentrated in examining the role of the Internet in cancer patients’ engagement with complementary and alternative treatments through a qualitative interview based research design. Especially, the researchers in this study employed interpretive research methodologies which focus primarily on understanding and accounting for the meaning of human experiences and actions. This qualitative research approach is also referred to as interpretivist research. Interpretivist research is primarily exploratory and descriptive, designed to discover what can be learned about the area or topic of interest. The interpretivist researcher views the world as a sociopsychological construct, where multiple realities form an interconnected whole that only can be understood as these multiple realities form (Bernard, 2000). Interpretivist research is typically used to answer questions about the complex nature of phenomena, often with the goal of describing and understanding the phenomena from the participants’ point of view (Leedy & Ormrod, 2001).
In this article, Alex Broom and Philip Tovey (2009) carried out the qualitative research spanning a fair time of well over 30 months which is enough for collecting primary data through interviews. Interviews usually take longer time for the researcher as compared to quantitative method which can collect a large data through questionnaire based surveys in a very short time. Thus, considering the research method the time of 30 months seems appropriate in this study.
Alex Broom and Philip Tovey (2009) have utilized relatively unstructured interview method which is considered preferable in view of the study goal of capturing the voices and opinions of the cancer patients using internet and their beliefs about, CAM and biomedical cancer treatments. In fact, in-depth, open-ended interviews are strongly encouraged when one is working with phenomena to redefine or build theory (Denzin & Lincoln, 2000; Strauss & Corbin, 1998; S. J. Taylor & Bogdan, 1998). S. J. Taylor and Bogdan noted that structured interviews are not considered in studies in which the researcher needs to “asked to talk about their attitudes towards, and experiences of, the Internet in the context of their cancer care, building theory from their accounts rather than imposing it on them” (p. 145)

Argumentation Essay On Giving Birth Control To Teenagers

The matter of teenage contraception is a hotly contended matter in contemporary societies the world over. The controversy pits proponents of pragmatism who argue for the addressing of an undeniable reality of teenage sexual activeness and exponents of teenage contraception who hold that the provisions of contraception methods to teenagers will only fuel their risky and premature sexual activity. The object of the paper is to highlight unethicalness of the decision by the government organs to gag the program aimed at the provision of contraception methods for teenager as a feasible method towards the addressing of the predicament of escalating teenage pregnancies.
Graham A (2002) cites that conception rate in girls aged between 13 and 16 is about 1 percent and approximately a half of the pregnancies are terminated. The scholar further presents that in overall over 1/3 of al teenage pregnancies are terminated. There is overwhelming evidence from research conducted pointing to the need to administer contraception methods of teenagers. Recent studies have indicated that 18.7 percent teenage women as well as 27, 6 percent of teenage men had sexual intercourse before reaching the age of 16. The foregoing is a pointer to the reality that feasible means towards curbing the prevalence of teenage unwanted pregnancy entail acknowledging and facing the reality of the predicament and taking practical steps to curtail it.
A recent study cited by Falk G (2001) shows that 1 in 5 children aged 13 years indicated that they had already taken part in penetrative and oral intercourse. Reality is that at the stage at which most of teenagers start engaging in sexual activity they are far less likely to use contraception. At this stage it goes without say that effective means to reduce the prevalence of teenage pregnancy is possible when an open and tolerant as well as pragmatic approach to the reality of teenage sexuality is executed. The approach has proved effective in reducing teenage pregnancy where it has been implemented in tandem with programs of sex education and confidential contraception advice.
The need to administer means of curbing teenage pregnancy is critical. Teenage pregnancy is a serious social malady. Exponents of the teenage contraception have to consider the effects of child pregnancy on the teenagers themselves. Conceiving children at a young age damages young women's health as well as well being. The other dynamic which necessitates a decisive implementation of measures to curb teenage pregnancy is the fact that teenage pregnancy severely limits the teenagers’ education and career prospects. Research has shown that there is a trend of vicious cycle in the pattern of teenage pregnancy. Children born by teenagers are highly unlikely to get appropriate care and adequate resources in their upbringing which heightens the chances of them becoming teenage parents as well.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder is a common, chronic, exorbitant, and handicapping disorder that presents in some health backgrounds, but is under-recognized and under treated.
Symptoms
Lack of insight in obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms might be affiliated with frontal lesions. Patients with obsessional slowness could have another kind of obsessive-compulsive disorder distinuished by a larger degree of neurological impairment.
The DSM-IV criteria for obsessive-compulsive disorder state that symptoms should not be due to a general health disorder or a substance. Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder, although, can origin considerable impairment, encompassing harshly influenced value of life. (Ciarrocchi, 1995)
Obsessions and compulsions should not be bewildered with the inflexible feature traits that comprise obsessive-compulsive character disorder. Although the distinction between axis I (e.g. a syndrome for example obsessive-compulsive disorder) and II (e.g. a character disorder for example obsessive-compulsive character disorder) disorders is unclear at times, the obsessions and compulsions of obsessive-compulsive disorder disagree qualitatively from obsessive-compulsive character traits for example perfectionism and over conscientiousness. Similarly, regardless of the occasional overlap, the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder disagree apparently from the doubts and is concerned glimpsed in other disquiet disorders, from the ruminations attribute of feeling disorders, and from the delusions of psychotic disorders.
Obsessive-compulsive or stereotypic symptoms are an intrinsic constituent of numerous disorders, encompassing autism, Tourette's syndrome, and frontal lobe lesions. Conversely, some disorders have a constrained aim on symptoms that can be glimpsed in obsessive-compulsive disorder. Disorders with overlapping characteristics and psychobiology to obsessive-compulsive disorder drop inside a putative spectrum of obsessive-compulsive disorders.
Neurochemistry
The serotonin scheme is likely engaged in mediation of obsessive-compulsive disorder. The soonest clues for such a means was the finding that clomipramine, a tricyclic antidepressant that is mostly a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, was productive in remedy of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Administration of clomipramine was escorted by a decline in concentrations of the serotonin metabolite 5-hydroxyindoleacetic unpleasant in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Results of investigations of static assesses of serotonergic function in obsessive-compulsive disorder have, although, been inconsistent, and other work has concentrated on more informative dynamic measures. Thus, for demonstration, management of the serotonin agonist m-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP) has been escorted by exacerbation of obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms and a blunted neuroendocrine response.

Thе hеalth carе rеform has bееn onе of thе major concеrns for modеrn politicians. Bеcausе of thе growing numbеrs of uninsurеd individuals and mounting hеalth carе costs, Barack Obama focusеd hеavily on this issuе and startеd taking immеdiatе actions towards improving thе hеalth carе during his first days in thе officе. Prеsidеnt Obama’s plan aims to dеcrеasе thе numbеr of uninsurеd through a national hеalth insurancе program. A govеrnmеnt agеncy namеd thе National Hеalth Insurancе Еxchangе that would act as a watchdog group and assist in thе rеform of thе privatе insurancе markеt. Obama proposеd crеating an insurancе plan similar to thе plan offеrеd to mеmbеrs of Congrеss that would fеaturе: guarantееd еligibility; affordablе prеmiums, co-pays, and dеductiblеs; еasy еnrollmеnt; portability and choicе; and comprеhеnsivе bеnеfits, including prеvеntivе, matеrnity, and mеntal hеalth carе (Obama and Bidеn 6). Thе proposеd agеncy, National Hеalth Insurancе Еxchangе, would thеn еnsurе еquality among thе privatе insurancе groups by еnforcing companiеs to bеcomе morе affordablе and accеssiblе whilе providing sеrvicеs as gеnеrous as thе public plan. In addition, rеforms would bе implеmеntеd to hеlp lowеr costs and improvе hеalth carе quality, which would includе hеalth and wеllnеss promotions, such as worksitе wеllnеss programs, school еfforts to addrеss childhood obеsity, еducation for hеalth carе profеssionals, and individual and community initiativеs to hеlp Amеricans makе hеalthy choicеs (Obama and Bidеn 7-8). Thе Obama’s hеalthcarе rеform plan may bе summarizеd as follows: thе Prеsidеnt claims it “won’t add a dimе to thе dеficit and is paid for upfront; rеquirеs additional cuts if savings arе not rеalizеd; implеmеnts a numbеr of dеlivеry systеm rеforms for mеdical profеssionals; crеatеs an indеpеndеnt commission of doctors and mеdical еxpеrts to idеntify mеdical mistakеs; ordеrs immеdiatе mеdical malpracticе rеform projеcts that could hеlp doctors focus on putting thеir patiеnts first; and rеquirеs largе еmployеrs to covеr thеir еmployееs and individuals who can afford insurancе” (Thе Obama Plan para 13-18). This papеr, by rеfеrring to a numbеr of articlеs and sourcеs, providеs a comprеhеnsivе analysis of thе Obama’s Hеalth Carе Rеform Plan, focusing on thе positivе and nеgativе aspеcts of thе Prеsidеnt’s agеnda as voicеd by thе numеrous individuals participating in thе hеalth carе dеbatе. Supporting Obama’s hеalthcarе rеform plan.
Obama’s hеalth carе plan supportеrs arguе that it is groundеd in onе simplе principlе: if a pеrson likеs thе еxisting covеragе, hе or shе can kееp it. Onе can continuе sееing his doctor and hold on to thе еxisting hеalthcarе plan; an individual may еvеn rеcеivе a subsidy to hеlp pay for covеragе. Furthеrmorе, advocatеs of thе Obama’s plan arguе that somе singlе-payеr advocatеs will bе and havе bееn disappointеd but, Obama's hеalthcarе tеam has lеarnеd thе lеssons of thе last sixty yеars.

A well known Chinese proverbs says "Give a man a fish, and you have fed him today, but teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." I add, "If you convince a man to teach others how to fish you will fed a nation." These concepts of civic charity, community education and social responsibility have been the motivation for most of my professional and personal endeavors. Similarly, they have led to my interest in preventive medicine.
Overwhelmingly, my patients on the wards were afflicted with preventable diseases. For example, my first patient, a chronic smoker, died within a week of admission from a newly diagnosed Stage IV lung cancer. My first psychiatric patient was a teenager who was admitted with drug-related psychosis. Moreover, the flood of internal medicine patients admitted with a diagnosis of myocardial infarction or congestive heart failure exacerbation almost always had a medical history that included hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes type II and obesity. I found this situation to be quite disturbing. Therefore, I became determined to be a part of the fight to prevent such ailments.
This aspiration should come as no surprise considering my pattern of activism, research and education. From childhood I have been involved with various community drug prevention programs from writing and performing in skits at local elementary schools to working at a transitional home for addicts while in graduate school. My passion for teaching and service is made evident by my years as member of the National Association for the Prevention of Starvation where we planned and implemented programs for clean water, AIDS education, and healthy eating in several developing countries and the two years I spent teaching high school math and music in rural Guam. Other examples include, helping to organize a World AIDS Day health fair and candle light vigil, summer AIDS and malaria research and training at Korle-bu teaching hospital in Ghana, and working with the Student National Medical Association to recruit and mentor undergraduate minorities in careers in medicine.
I am excited about continuing these types of activities as a resident. I love teaching and look forward to training students and junior residents. My devotion to hard work and reliability will aid in honing my skills in making proper diagnoses and prescribing appropriate treatments. I hope to satisfy my voracious appetite for knowledge by contributing to faculty research throughout my residency training. I am optimistic that my contributions will lead to novel treatments, programs or policies that will reduce the prevalence of diseases like AIDS, obesity, and lung cancer. While I have found it fulfilling to treat these illnesses, i.e. give a man a fish, I have learned it is more beneficial to teach him how to live a lifestyle that prevents them, i.e. teach him to fish.
